\/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We, representatives of the European ECO Forum members, the coalition of environmental civil associations of pan-European region, are concerned that the authorities of city of Almaty, Kazakhstan currently plan to carry out project of construction of high mountainous ski resort \u201cKokzhaylau\u201d on the territory of Ile-Alatau National Natural Park, nominated to be included on UNESCO World Heritage list, at the expenses of the state budget.<\/p>\n<p>The Almaty authorities and developers refuse to listen to the public, scientists and renowned experts who try to stop the environmental catastrophe and the unreasonable spending of state finance.<\/p>\n<p>The decision making over the project is accompanied with numerous violations of national legislation and provisions of Aarhus Convention, which Kazakhstan is a party.<\/p>\n<p>Relevant ministries and agencies responsible for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the country remain inactive, and by that they actually contribute to the project realization.<\/p>\n<p>We urge the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to suspend decision making procedures till full participation and consideration of public opinion is ensured, according to the provisions of the Aarhus Convention in regards of this particular
